     On 22 May 2013, Mr. Medha Promthep, Thai Ambassador to Argentina, Uruguay, and Paraguay, together with Mrs. Susana Monreal, Director of  the Institute of International Relations, Catholic University of Uruguay, presided over the inauguration of “Thailand Corner” at Sala Bauzá, Catholic University of Uruguay.

     The Thai Ambassador gave an opening remark of the inauguration ceremony emphasizing the objective of the project which is to promote the better understanding between the peoples of Thailand and Uruguay. He also wished that the Corner which was now provided with more than 150 books and other media about Thailand in various aspects such as politics, economics, social science, culture, language, religion, would become another convenient source of information for students, academic personals, and general public in Uruguay, as well as would promote the better knowledge and understanding about Thailand and bring the two peoples even closer.  The ceremony was followed by the reception hosted by the university in which the Embassy also cooperated by serving an authentic Thai dessert “Thong Yip” (pinched gold egg yolks) to approximately 60 guests comprising of diplomats, representatives from government, business sector, and academic society of Uruguay.

     The Catholic University of Uruguay is a famous private university in Montevideo with total 9,000 enrolled students in 6 faculties.   The university is very enthusiastic about the relations with South East Asian region, and also has cooperation in student exchange programme with universities around the world including Thailand.
