On 14 February 2013, H.E. Mr. Somchai Powcharoen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand and his wife hosted a reception to congratulate Dr. Uche Veronica Amazigo, Prince Mahidol Laureate 2012 in Public Health at Transcorp Hilton Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria.

     Dr. Uche Vernonica Amazigo is the second Nigerian citizen to be conferred the Prince Mahidol Award, the first being Professor Adetokunbo Lucas in 1999.  Invited guests included H.E. Professor C.O. Onyebuchi Chukwu, Honourable Minister of Health of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,  Professor Dora Akunyili, Former Minister of Information, Senators, Representative of the Governor of Anambra State, the diplomatic corps as well as Nigerian medical and health professionals.
