Thailand strongly deplores the underground testing of a nuclear weapon by the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on 12 February 2013. This provocative act not only violates relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, which the DPRK as a member of the United Nations is obligated to uphold, but also disrupts the atmosphere of peace and stability in East Asia and the Pacific.

Thailand is committed to working closely with the international community to safeguard peace and security in the region.  We strongly urge the DPRK to heed the concerns of the international community and fully abide by relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions by halting its nuclear programme and re-engaging in dialogue to ensure that there will be no further actions that will heighten tension on the Korean Peninsula and destabilise regional peace and stability.
