On 28 January 2013, Royal Thai Embassy in Lisbon, in collaboration with Escola de Hotelaria e Turismo de Lisboa, organized a Thai cooking demonstration at the school’s campus. At the morning session, Ms. Sureerat Chansri, chef of Thai Ambassador to Portugal, demonstrated the preparation of two popular dishes: Tom Yam Goong (Thai spicy and sour prawn soup) and Pad Thai (Stir-fried shrimp noodle), attended by 30 gastronomic students who enjoyed cooking and learning how to cook Thai dishes. After the session, the two dishes prepared by the students were served for lunch at the school’s restaurant, attended by H.E. Ambassador Chakorn Suchiva and the Embassy’s staff as well as executives and students of the school. The students expressed their interest in learning more about Thai cuisine and ingredients.

The afternoon demonstration session, which was arranged for spouses of foreign Ambassadors accredited to Portugal, were participated by spouses of Ambassadors of Japan, Korea, Serbia, Romania, as well as wife of Secretary-General of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Portugal. The participants also had a chance to cook Pad Thai and Tom Yam Goong and enjoyed tasting samples of the two dishes.

In addition, Thai food products and ingredients, available in supermarkets and Asian grocery stores in Portugal, were displayed and caught the attention of the participants who expressed their interest in knowing more about Thai food.

The objective of this project - as part of the Thai government campaign “Kitchen to the World” campaign to promote production of food and food products to supply customers around the world - is to show to the Portuguese how to cook authentic Thai cuisine and promote the consumption of Thai products and ingredient in Portuguese market.
