On 13 February 2012, Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Director-General of the Department of Information and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, gave a press interview after the opening of the Fifth Meeting of the Thai – Cambodian Joint Commission on Demarcation for Land Boundary (JBC) hosted by Thailand on 13 – 14 February 2012 in Bangkok. Gist as follows:

The meeting was co-chaired by Mr. Bandhit Sotipalalit, Advisor to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, and his counterpart, Mr. Var Kim Hong, Senior Minister in Charge of Border Affairs of Cambodia. The meeting was a follow up of the JBC meeting in Bogor, Indonesia in April 2011 with the main focus on technical issues related to the demarcation for land boundary of the Thai – Cambodian border. Topics to be discussed include preparation for joint field survey in Sector 5 (boundary pillars 1 – 23), technical specification for production of Orthophoto maps which, once approved, would subsequently lead to a selection process of a production agency. The meeting would also discuss on the technical aspects of the opening of a new international point of entry at Stung Bot Village (Sa Kaeo Province – Banteay Meanchey Province) in the future.

The two Chairpersons would give a joint press briefing on the result of this JBC meeting on 14 February 2012.
