On 28 March 2012, Archibishop Giovanni d’Aniello, Apostolic Nuncio of the Holy See (Vatican) to Thailand, paid a farewell call on Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul upon the completion of his tenure. On this occasion, the Foreign Minister expressed his appreciation to the Apostolic Nuncio for his work and effort in helping to foster closer relations between Thailand and the Vatican.
