On 9 September 2010, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan co-hosted Mekong-Japan International Conference on the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) and the Southern Economic Corridor (SEC) under the theme Completing Connectivity, Creating Economic Prosperity at Siam Kempinski Bangkok Hotel. Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya and Mr. Osamu Fujimura, State Secretary of Japan, presided over the opening session of the Conference.
