During 11-14 July 2023, His Excellency Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended the 56th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting and Related Meetings (56th AMM/PMC) at Shangri-La Hotel, Jakarta, the Republic of Indonesia, which comprised 17 meetings.
ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ supported cooperation in priority areas under the theme of Indonesia’s ASEAN Chairmanship in 2023 “ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth". They also promoted practical cooperation that would contribute to the strengthening of ASEAN’s capacity and institutional effectiveness, such as cooperation under the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP), the maintenance of Southeast Asia Nuclear Weapon-Free Zone (SEANWFZ), cooperation on human rights, as well as advancing relations with external partners.
Deputy Prime Minister exchanged views on regional and international issues, in particular the situation in Myanmar, in which the Meeting reaffirmed the implementation of the Five-Point Consensus. The Deputy Prime Minister also called for serious engagement in a genuine dialogue for peaceful resolution of conflict in Ukraine. As a Country Coordinator for ASEAN-Japan Relations, Deputy Prime Minister co-chaired the ASEAN-Japan Ministerial Meeting (PMC+1 Session with Japan) with His Excellency Mr. HAYASHI Yoshimasa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Japan, to prepare for the ASEAN-Japan Commemorative Summit for the 50th Anniversary of ASEAN-Japan Relations in December 2023 in Tokyo.
Deputy Prime Minister also attended the signing ceremony of the Instrument of Accession to the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) by His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, making Saudi Arabia the 51st High Contract Party to the Treaty. Furthermore, Deputy Prime Minister, along with other Foreign Ministers of ASEAN and external partners, paid a joint courtesy call to His Excellency Mr. Joko Widodo, President of the Republic of Indonesia.
In addition, Deputy Prime Minister held bilateral meetings with Foreign Ministers and Representatives of four countries, namely Brunei Darussalam, India, People’s Republic of China, and Kingdom of Norway, to move forward bilateral relations as well as to exchange views on current international issues.
