On 18 August 2023, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, held the 3rd Thailand - Singapore Political Consultations meeting with H.E. Mr. Albert Chua, Permanent Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Singapore, at the Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok, to discuss ways and means to further strengthen bilateral ties and cooperation that would be more responsive to the fast changing regional and global landscapes.
Both sides agreed to closely coordinate with one another to maintain regular high-level dialogues and exchanges of visits in the future, including the upcoming 14th Civil Service Exchange Programme (CSEP) to be hosted by Thailand.
Both sides also agreed to step up coordination to enhance bilateral cooperation in all dimensions, particularly in the following areas:
(1) Enhancing security cooperation through high-level meetings between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ministry of Defense of both sides, exchanges of personnel at all levels, intelligence cooperation and cyber security cooperation;
(2) Advancing economic activities by integrating the two countries’ supply chain on food security, renewable energy and sustainable development via trade, investment and joint research and development;
(3) Strengthening people-to-people ties by fostering human resources development and capacity building for digital workforce; and
(4) Upgrading domestic digital ecosystem to be future-ready for digital transformation and digital economy.
In addition, both sides exchanged views on a wide range of challenges facing Southeast Asia and beyond, and agreed to strengthen coordination to drive and strengthen ASEAN into the new era, and maintaining ASEAN’s key role in promoting regional peace and stability, as well as inclusive and sustainable development amidst multiple international political and economic challenges.
