The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand discussed Thai-Russian relations with the Ambassador of Russia to Thailand, including Russia’s participation in the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2022 to be hosted by Thailand, preparations for the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Thai-Russian diplomatic relations in 2022, and a request for Russia’s continued support to the launching of FTA negotiations between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union.

On 17 February 2021, Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, welcomed H.E. Mr. Evgeny Tomikhin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Kingdom of Thailand, during a courtesy call and discussed Thai-Russian bilateral relations in all dimensions, including the visit to Thailand of a high-level representative of the Russian Federation to attend the APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in 2022, preparations for the celebration of the 125th anniversary of Thai-Russian diplomatic relations in 2022, and for the 8th Thai-Russian Joint Commission on Bilateral Cooperation, as well as a request for Russia’s continued support to the launching of FTA negotiations between Thailand and the Eurasian Economic Union.

Moreover, both sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest such as the ASEAN-Russia cooperation, the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, and the Thai-Russian cooperation within the United Nations frameworks.
