On 21 September 2020, H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, delivered Thailand’s statement via a pre-recorded video to the High-level Meeting of the General Assembly to Commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations, organised during the 75th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, the United States of America.

In his statement, the Prime Minister reiterated Thailand’s support for the work of the UN within the three pillars, namely Maintaining Peace and Security, Driving the Development Agenda, and Protecting Human Rights, to which Thailand has consistently contributed throughout her membership. The Prime Minister also called on the international community to promote the UN's missions and strengthen multilateralism in order to enhance its capacity to respond to people’s demands, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic which requires international efforts to sustainably prevent its spread. Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed Thailand’s readiness to cooperate with all countries to improve the well-being of citizens around the world.

On this occasion, the Prime Minister joined other global leaders in adopting the Declaration for the Commemoration of the 75th Anniversary of the United Nations. The Declaration expressed UN Member States’ strong emphasis on the importance of the UN system and global unity, setting 12 common goals such as: leaving no one behind; upholding international law and ensuring justice; placing women and girls at the centre; improving digital cooperation; listening to and working with youth; and being prepared for future challenges.
