Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a virtual meeting with Thai Ambassadors and Consul-Generals overseas, also attended by EEC Office of Thailand, to discuss ways to attract investment from 19 target countries into the EEC in the post COVID-19 context.
On 24 July 2020, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs hosted a virtual meeting with Thai Ambassadors and Consul-Generals overseas, to discuss ways to attract investment from 19 target countries into the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in the post COVID-19 context. The meeting was also attended by Mr. Arsa Sarasin, Honorary Chairman of Foreign Strategic Working Group of Eastern Economic Corridor Office of Thailand (EECO), and executives of EECO.
Dr. Kanit Sangsubhan, Secretary General of EECO and his team provided an update on the latest development of EEC project, explained the EEC’s post COVID-19 themes of development, and targeted industries as well as EEC’s Targeted Companies which would be useful for the works of Thai Ambassadors and Consul-Generals. H.E. Busaya Mathelin, Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, emphasised the importance of EEC project to the Thai Government, and the contribution of overseas envoys to the promising project.
During the meeting, Thai Ambassadors in the United States, China, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Germany, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, France, Denmark, Finland, Russia and Spain presented their views on the promotion of investment in the EEC as well as informed the EEC about the opportunities of attracting investment from the target countries. The meeting also discussed topics of business and investment ecosystem, the awareness of developments in the EEC, and the confidence in Thailand as a reliable destination for investment.
