H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to attend the 36th ASEAN Summit via videoconference on 26 June 2020. The Summit will be chaired by H.E. Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam, as the ASEAN Chair in 2020.

The Summit will focus on enhancing cooperation among ASEAN Member States in responding to Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19), building upon the outcomes of discussions among ASEAN Leaders and with the Leaders of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea during the Special ASEAN Summit and ASEAN Plus Three Summit on COVID-19 on 14 April 2020.  The ASEAN Leaders will also discuss the development of ASEAN’s comprehensive recovery plan and other issues of common interest under Viet Nam’s Chairmanship theme of “Cohesive and Responsive” in order to realise a more resilient ASEAN Community that is truly people-centred and leaves no one behind.

In addition to meeting with other ASEAN Leaders, the Prime Minister will also enhance engagement and cooperation with various stakeholders in ASEAN. He will attend the ASEAN Leaders’ Special Session on Women’s Empowerment in the Digital Age and interface sessions with representatives from the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), ASEAN Youth, and ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN-BAC).

To prepare for the 36th ASEAN Summit, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, will attend the Informal Meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, the 21st ASEAN Political-Security Community (APSC) Council Meeting, and the 26th ASEAN Coordinating Council Meeting via videoconference on 24 June 2020.  These ministerial meetings will follow up on ASEAN cooperation on COVID-19 and the implementation of the APSC Blueprint 2025. Regional and international issues and ASEAN’s external relations will also be discussed.
