On 13 January 2020 H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs, as Representative of the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand paid a visit to the Sultanate of Oman to convey condolences on the passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, to His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq Al-Said, the new Sultan of Oman, in audience granted at Al-Alam Palace in Muscat. On the same day, the Foreign Minister of Thailand met with H.E. Mr. Yousuf bin Alawi bin Abdullah, Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs of Oman. Both sides exchanged views on bilateral and international issues, in particular, the ongoing situation in the Middle East.

His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said passed away at the age  of 80 years old on 10 January 2020. Diwan of the Royal Court declared a state mourning for 3 days from 11-13 January 2020 and the national flag to be flown half mast for 40 days. His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said ruled the Sultanate of Oman from 1970 to 2020. During his 50-year reign, His Majesty had transformed the Sultanate of Oman into one of the most stable and prosperous countries in the region. His Majesty was recognised regionally and internationally for his role in pursuing a balanced and neutral foreign policy to maintain peace and security in the region. Accordingly, His Majesty was revered by the Omani people and very well respected by the international community.
