On 5 - 6 December 2019, Mrs. Pornpimon Kanchanalak, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, led the Thai delegation to attend the 12th Bali Democracy Forum (BDF) in Bali, Indonesia. The Forum was held under the theme “Democracy and Inclusivity" with participation by delegations from 91 countries from Asia-Pacific region, Europe, Americas, and Africa,and representatives from 7 international organisations.
The Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs reaffirmed Thailand’s commitment to realise inclusive state-building through the development of inclusive economy, education on democracy for the new generations, promotion on the use of technology to enhance public participation, raising awareness in coping with digital and technological threats, such as fake news, and reforms of democratic institutions, taking into account the national development to promote fundamental rights and freedoms to secure public order.
The Bali Democracy Forum is an annual Asia-Pacific forum for sharing of ideas and experiences on the development of democracy. At the opening of the 12th Bali Democracy Forum, H.E. Mrs. Retno Marsudi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, reaffirmed that the promotion of democracy promotion should be the responsibility of all stakeholders. Each State should develop democracy to include inclusivity in accordance with national developments, as democracy should be used to create equality and security for all.
