Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand to Attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly

H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, is scheduled to attend the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 74) at the United Nations Headquarters, New York, during 21-27 September 2019. The Prime Minister will be accompanied by H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand and H.E. Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Kingdom of Thailand.

The theme of the 74th Session of the United Nations General Assembly is “Galvanizing multilateral efforts for poverty eradication, quality education, climate action and inclusion.” The Session will also feature key high-level meetings, namely:

(1) The Sustainable Development Goals Summit (SDGs Summit), which is the first gathering at the Summit level after leaders from countries, including Thailand, have adopted in 2015 the Sustainable Development Agenda 2030 with the objective to assess and expedite the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the year 2020.

(2) The High-level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), in which Thailand is the co-facilitator in drafting the Political Declaration on Universal Health Coverage, an important document that will be adopted by leaders. The document will serve as a framework towards achieving a global, comprehensive and inclusive universal health coverage.

(3) The Climate Action Summit, in which leaders will reaffirm their commitment to solve and prevent climate change.

The Prime Minister will deliver Statements on behalf of ASEAN at the SDGs Summit and the Climate Action Summit. He will deliver a national statement at the High-level Meeting on Universal Health Coverage on Thailand’s achievement in its Universal Health Coverage Scheme. Apart from participating in the high-level meetings, the Prime Minister is also scheduled to have bilateral meetings with the United Nations Secretary-General, President of the United Nations General Assembly, and other leaders attending the UNGA.

The Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand will meet with the Thai community in New York, and deliver keynote remarks at the Asia Society and US-ASEAN Business Council (USABC), the latter of which comprises leading business personalities in the United States of America.

Thailand is one of the current 193 Member States, which joined the UN in 1946 and has since contributed constructively in peacekeeping, human rights and development.
