On 3 September 2019, the Royal Thai Embassy in Brasilia, in collaboration with ASEAN Committee in Brasilia, consisting of the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam, organized ASEAN Day Reception to commemorate the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN at the Residence of the Indonesian Ambassador to Brazil. ACB welcomed Ambassador Reinaldo José de Almeida Salgado, Secretary for Bilateral Negotiations in Asia, Oceania and Russia as guest of honour and Ambassadors and representatives from Embassies of ASEAN Dialogue Partners as well as approximately 150 representatives from Brazil’s public and private sectors and local media.
In their remarks, His Excellency Mr. Edi Yusup, Ambassador of Indonesia to Brazil, as chair of ACB, and Ambassador Reinaldo José de Almeida Salgado, both highlighted significance of ASEAN and its development in the past 52 years since its establishment and how ASEAN and Brazil, as the first Latin American country to accede the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia (TAC) with ASEAN in 2012, are important economic partners.
After the remarks, ASEAN Heads of Mission together with Ambassador Salgado cut the ASEAN cake as a symbol of the celebration of the 52nd anniversary of the establishment of ASEAN which was followed by a reception with tradition dishes from ASEAM Member States being served.
