On 29 August 2019 H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, welcomed and met with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar, and delegation at the Ministry of Foreign Affaits on the occasion of his official visit to Thailand, as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, during 28 - 30 August 2019.
Both sides discussed ways to further promote bilateral cooperation in various areas such as trade, investment, food and energy security, and development cooperation. As one of the top food producers of the world, including halal food, the Thai side expressed readiness to support and enhance Qatar’s food security, as well as encouraging Thai business sector to support Qatar’s hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in terms of goods and services, to which the Qatari side responded positively. The Qatari side also expressed the wish to promote greater economic cooperation with Southeast Asian countries, including Thailand, and expressed interest in investing in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) of Thailand. Moreover, both sides discussed cooperation in multilateral frameworks such as the Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD), and Thailand’s ASEAN Chairmanship. Both sides also exchanged views on the situations in the Middle East and Southeast Asia as well as exploring trilateral development cooperation for a third country.
On the same day, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar met H.E. Mr. Somkid Jatusripitak, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, whereby the Qatari side expressed interest in promoting trade and investment cooperation with Thailand, especially in the EEC.
On 30 August 2019, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar paid a courtesy call on H.E. General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Thailand, whereby the Prime Minister requested that relevant agencies from Thailand and Qatar expeditiously implement what had been discussed in order to yield tangible benefit for both sides.
The official visit was an opportunity to further enhance bilateral relations between Thailand and Qatar as well as to expand the scope of bilateral cooperation to other new potential areas for the benefit of the two countries and peoples.
