On 15 August 2019, Ms. Pattarat Hongtong, Director-General of Thailand International Cooperation Agency (TICA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand, handed over three engineering laboratories namely Electronic Engineering Laboratory, Fundamentals of Electrical Engineering Laboratory, and Electrical Machine and Control Drive Laboratory, and a library to the Technological University of Dawei under the Project on Development of the Technological University of Dawei and the Government Technical High School. On this occasion, H.E. U Ho Pin, Minister of Social Affairs and Municipal Affairs of Tanintharyi Region, Daw Nwe Ni, Deputy Director-General of Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education of Myanmar, and Dr. Aung Naing Myint, Principal of the Technological University of Dawei, attended the ceremony at the Technological University of Dawei.

The Project on Development of Dawei Technological University and Government Technical High School aims to enhance the educational standards of Technological University of Dawei and Government Technical High School to be at par with the ASEAN standard and to produce skilled labour for 4.0 industries and support future technological development. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand together with King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok have implemented several activities under the project since 2014 such as providing capacity-building for more than 250 teachers in engineering pedagogy, renovating engineering electrical and electronics laboratories and library, supporting equipment and teaching material for teaching more than 800 students to the Technological University of Dawei in order to develop skilled labour for industries under the Dawei Special Economic Zone and special economic zones along Thailand – Myanmar border. Moreover, the Project strengthens the understanding and cooperation between the Governments and peoples of Thailand and Myanmar particularly along the borders of both countries.
