Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, as Executive Vice-President of the Thai Red Cross Society, will preside over the 9th Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Lecture on International Humanitarian Law on Friday, 23 August 2019 at 17.30 hrs., at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand. For this 9th lecture, Dr. Hassan Wirajuda, former Minister for Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, will deliver his lecture entitled “Aceh Peace Process (1999 – 2005) : Keys to Final Solution”.

 

The Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn Lecture was first launched by the Thai Red Cross Society and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2003. Since its inception, eight lectures have been organized once every two years. This lecture is organized for the purpose of promoting and disseminating knowledge on international humanitarian law to the general public as well as concerned authourties. Dr. Hassan Wirajuda, who is invited to give the lecture this time, has played important roles in promoting humanitarian diplomacy and peace-building, as he was a key facilitator of the peace talks between the Government of the Republic of Philippines and the Moro National Liberation Front and the Chief Negotiator on the Dialogue between the Government of Indonesia and the Free Aceh Movement (First Phrase). 

 

Attendees are comprised of public officials, experts and practitioners in the humanitarian field, member of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organizations and non-governmental organizations, academics, professors and students from various universities, cadets from Royal Thai Army schools and the Royal Police Cadet Academy.
