On 21-22 February 2025, H.E. Mr. Maris Sangiampongsa, Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a working visit to Myanmar, at the invitation of U Than Swe, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. This was his first visit to Myanmar in his capacity as the Minister of Foreign Affairs. During this visit, FM Maris held a bilateral discussion with the DPM and FM U Than Swe, and paid a courtesy call on Senior General Min Aung Hlaing, Prime Minister of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. Both sides attach importance to the close friendship and cooperation between the two neighbouring countries that have enjoyed long-standing ties and linkages. Both sides agreed to intensify cooperation with a view to address common concerns in various areas such as combatting transnational crimes, especially narcotic drugs, online scams, and human trafficking; transboundary haze; management of the Mae Sai - Nam Ruak Rivers to prevent flooding; security and economic cooperation, especially promotion of peace along the Thailand - Myanmar border; and development cooperation focusing on human resource development of Myanmar.
