Thailand presented the 2021 Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the Implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and emphasised the need to promote cooperation at all levels towards a resilient recovery and sustainable development.

In his remarks at the presentation of Thailand’s 2021 VNR to the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) on 14 July 2021, H.E. Mr. Don Pramudwinai, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, stated that the world needed to think anew to effectively address the issue of inequalities that has intensified post-pandemic and digital transformation. He highlighted Thailand’s vision to shift towards a “balance of all things”, not only human-nature balance but also a more equitable wealth distribution, inclusive economic growth and safety for all. In this regard, Thailand has further advanced its homegrown development approach, the Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, through the promotion of the Bio-Circular-Green Economy Model. The BCG Model represents an intertwining relationship among the three economic models that provides the vital balance needed to reach the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This year’s report to the HLPF was Thailand’s second official VNR, following its first VNR submission in 2017. A total of 42 countries presented their VNRs at this year’s forum. Thailand’s 2021 VNR provides a review of the implementation of the SDGs during the past four years, the remaining challenges and the country’s responses to the COVID-19 crisis. It also provides examples of efforts made by various sectors to move the SDGs forward. Stakeholders such as parliamentarians, academia, youth, and volunteers were also engaged in the VNR preparation process and provided invaluable information and comments. These efforts reflect the good collaboration and strong partnerships among different sectors, which are a strong foundation for Thailand’s progress towards the SDGs and sustainable development.
