Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Vijavat Isarabhakdi had a virtual discussion with H.E. Mr. Pablo Anselmo Tettamanti, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Argentina. Both sides agreed to enhancing Thailand-Argentina bilateral relations, especially on the post COVID-19 economic recovery, technical cooperation and South-South cooperation.

On 18 June 2021, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Ambassador Pablo Anselmo Tettamanti, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Argentine Republic, via a video conference, to strengthen Thai-Argentine bonds and exchange matters of common interests. It was the first high-level meeting held since the Thai and Argentine sides last met for their 4th Political Consultations and Bilateral Economic Comsultation in Buenos Aires in 2017.

The two sides reiterated their strong intention to strengthen the six-decade-long bilateral ties and advance cooperation of mutual benefits. Both agreed to organise the Fifth Political Consultations once COVID-19 subsides. To achieve the post-COVID-19 economic recovery, both sides would enhance economic cooperation by promoting e-commerce to boost their trade volume, particularly in the sector of new normal goods. The Argentine side would also support Thailand’s investment in lithium mining in Argentina, which could contribute to electric car industry development in the EEC.

In addition, the two sides reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining and deepening technical cooperation in the fields of forensic anthropology, the improvement of sustainable soybean productions and utilisation, and the genetic variability of sugar cane for ethanol production, as well as the development of nuclear power for peaceful uses and space technology. They further agreed to initiate the exchanges of football, Muay Thai and Sepak Takraw coaches. In addition, the two countries, on multilateral front, agreed to continue their mutual support in the frameworks of the United Nations, South-South cooperation and the Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC).
