Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs attends National Day reception of Portugal

On 10 June 2026, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, together with Mrs. Wannipa Isarabhakdi, his spouse, and Mrs. Varaporn Phuangketkeow, spouse of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, attended a reception on the occasion of the National Day of the Portuguese Republic at the residence of the Ambassador of Portugal to Thailand. They were greeted by H.E. Mr. Luís de Albuquerque Veloso, Ambassador of Portugal to Thailand.

The Vice Foreign Minister conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Royal Thai Government and highlighted the close and longstanding relations between Thailand and Portugal, which span more than 500 years. He noted that Portugal is the European country with the longest-standing diplomatic relations with Thailand. Since the establishment of relations in the sixteenth century, the two countries have enjoyed close cooperation across a wide range of areas, including politics, trade, investment, education and culture. He also underscored Portugal’s significant role in the history of Thailand’s engagement with the Western world. The reception reflected the spirit of friendship and the close ties between the two countries.
