On 8 July 2024, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, during a courtesy call upon assumption of his new role as Ambassador.

Both sides welcomed the close and cordial relationship between Thailand and Japan as Comprehensive Strategic Partners (CSP). Thailand and Japan have frequently exchanged visits and held high-level dialogues, particularly between the Prime Ministers and Foreign Ministers of both countries, which are crucial for mobilising cooperation in economy and investment. The discussion also included the topics of the next-generation automotive industry, promotion of tourism, visa exemption measures for ordinary passport holders of both countries, and addressing the issue of overstaying Thai nationals.

On regional and international issues, both sides shared perspectives on the situation in Ukraine, particularly the outcomes of the Summit for Peace. The Ambassador reaffirmed Japan’s support for Thailand's role and ASEAN's efforts to find a peaceful solution in Myanmar, as well as expressed support for Thailand throughout the process of joining the OECD.
