Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs meets with the Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations

On 28 August 2026, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, welcomed and met with Mr. Qu Dongyu, Director-General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), who paid a courtesy call on the Vice Foreign Minister on the occasion of his visit to Thailand from 27 - 29 August 2026 to attend the Ceremony in Honour and Commemoration of the Royal Benevolence of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother of Thailand, organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.
 
Both sides welcomed the 79th anniversary of Thailand’s membership in the FAO and discussed key areas of Thailand - FAO cooperation, including Thailand’s hosting of the FAO Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific, the annual co-hosting of World Soil Day at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, the proposal to establish the UN Decade on Soil Health (2031 - 2040), the organization of a joint side event on the sidelines of the IMF - WBG Annual Meetings 2026, to be hosted by Thailand in October 2026, as well as capacity-building support for Thailand’s Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) accession process. On this occasion, the Director-General paid tribute to the Thai Royal Family’s initiatives in agriculture and underscored Thailand’s potential to play a leading role in South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the areas of agriculture and food.
 
In addition, the Vice Foreign Minister reaffirmed Thailand's readiness to further strengthen cooperation with the FAO to accelerate concrete outcomes in the future, as well as exchanged views on the impact of geopolitical tensions on food security.
