On 27 August 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs and H.E. Mrs. Maria de Fatima Simao, Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Mozambican Communities Abroad at the Republic of Mozambique, co-chaired the 1st Political Consultations between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Mozambique in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique.

Both sides shared updates on the current political and economic situations of their respective regions, as well as followed up and exchanged views on ways and means to push forward bilateral cooperation through the expansion of trade and investment, whereby Mozambique is currently Thailand’s largest investment destination in Africa, particularly in the energy, infrastructure, and hospitality sectors. They also discussed cooperation in the agricultural and jewelry sectors, as well as development cooperation, particularly in agriculture and food security.

In addition, the Thai side informed the Mozambican side of Thailand’s policy towards Africa, including the aim to deepen Thailand’s engagement with African regional and subregional organizations, such as the African Union (AU) and the Southern African Development Community (SADC), which consists of 16 member states, including Mozambique.
