Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, delivered Thailand’s statement, via a pre-recorded video, at the “Virtual Commemoration of the International Day of Vesak 2022”. The event was co-hosted by the Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations and the Permanent Mission of Sri Lanka to the United Nations.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs underlined the importance of Vesak Day and encouraged the international community to recall the Lord Buddha’s teachings which have served as a compass for peace and non-violence. He further reiterated that the Buddha’s teachings of selflessness, tolerance, mutual respect, and especially compassion and loving kindness could enhance a peaceful world.
On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs also stressed that the teaching of the Lord Buddha, which focus on upholding human dignity, promoting peace, and encouraging equality are applicable to the raison d'être of the United Nations. For this reason, the Day of Vesak is an opportunity for the international community to show their commitment to strengthening the rules-based multilateral system to resolve conflicts and violence around the world.
