On 25 May 2023, the U.S. Congressional Delegation led by Senator Michael Crapo (R-Idaho), Ranking Member of the U.S. Senate Committee on Finance, together with Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana), Senator John Boozman (R-Arkansas), Senator Ron Johnson (R-Wisconsin), Senator Mike Lee (R-Utah), and Senator Deb Fischer (R-Nebraska), paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, during their visit to Thailand between 24 - 26 May 2023.

During the discussion, both sides underscored the importance of the long-standing and close Thailand-U.S. alliance and reaffirmed their readiness to enhance the multi-faceted cooperation in all aspects, especially on the occasion of the 190th anniversary of Thailand-U.S. diplomatic relations this year (2023). Both sides exchanged views on ways to strengthen cooperation on the issues of shared priorities, such as economic and investment cooperation, and people-to-people cooperation. Both sides also discussed key regional developments, including the situation in Myanmar.

On this occasion, the U.S. side commended Thailand for the active role in advancing constructive and inclusive economic cooperation in the region, particularly the cooperation under the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF). The U.S. side reiterated its readiness to steer IPEF cooperation toward tangible benefits for the peoples.

This visit to Thailand is the largest delegation by a U.S. Congressional members since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and provided an opportunity to further enhance engagement and cooperation with the U.S. legislative branch on the issues of mutual interest for both countries.
