The situation in Bangkok and various parts of Thailand has fully returned to normal. As of today, 1 April 2025, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) has officially revoked its Disaster Declaration for the city reflecting the significant progress made to address the impacts of the recent earthquake in Myanmar on the city’s residents, facilities, and services.
Focus remains on the search and rescue operation at the State Audit Office building site in Chatuchak which is still at a critical juncture with command responsibilities now directly placed with the Chatuchak district chief. Thailand continues to appreciate the national and international experts, officials and volunteers, who are still hard at work on-site.
The BMA’s building inspections for structural safety have continued apace to assure residents, businesses and organisations, with 80 percent of the requests received through BMA’s channels already dealt with. For those who are affected by building damage, injuries, or safety issues related to their accommodations, temporary shelters have been provided.
In order to ensure the full resumption to normalcy for the people, in all aspects, after the challenging few days, free medical support including mental health, is being offered by the BMA and the relevant agencies to those directly affected, their families, and those living near the most affected areas. Those in other districts can also seek medical advice at BMA health centres and hospitals.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its thanks to all involved for their contributions to ensuring areas of Thailand affected by Friday’s earthquake in Myanmar are brought back to normalcy in a speedy manner. Given these positive developments, Thailand now looks forward to the 6th BIMSTEC Summit and Related Meetings that will take place in Bangkok this week.
