On 3 November 2023, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, on behalf of the Royal Thai Government, presented a contribution of 3,000,000 Baht to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in response to the “UNRWA Flash Appeal: 90 day initial emergency response to the escalation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023.” Mr. Giuseppe De Vincentiis, UN Resident Coordinator, ad interim, represented the UNRWA in receiving the donation.

Thailand has been following closely the situation in the Gaza Strip with deep concern, especially the effect on the innocent civilians. Thailand hopes that the contribution will help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians, who are in dire need of food, water, energy, medical supplies and proper shelter in Gaza.

As a responsible member of the international community and in upholding our long-standing humanitarian tradition, Thailand has consistently made financial contributions to UNRWA since 1978. This contribution is an addition to Thailand’s multi-year pledge for voluntary contributions to UNRWA for the year 2022-2026 for the total amount of 200,000 U.S. dollars, which is a continuation from the previous multi-year pledge from 2017-2021 of the same amount.

In this regard, H.E. Mr. Supark Prongthura, Ambassador of Thailand to Jordan, had presented the abovementioned contribution to UNRWA in Jordan on 1 November 2023.
