UNFPA praised Thailand’s leading role in South-South Cooperation and expressed readiness to collaborate as Thailand prepares to become an aged society

On 11 May 2022, Ms. Diene Keita, Deputy Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) paid a courtesy call on Mrs. Chulamanee Chartsuwan, Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to introduce herself and exchange views on how to further the cooperation between UNFPA and Thailand.

Ms. Kieta praised Thailand for being at the forefront of development cooperation through South-South and Triangular Cooperation, particularly the UNFPA and Thailand’s joint projects on Health System Development in Bhutan and Midwifery Education in the Lao PDR. UNFPA also expressed interest to exchange knowledge and experiences on South-South Cooperation at the Global South-South Development Expo 2022 which Thailand will co-host in September this year.

On this occasion, Deputy Permanent Secretary reiterated Thailand’s readiness to work closely with the UNFPA to implement of the UNFPA Country Program Document for Thailand 2022-2026 to promote access to family planning, eliminate gender-based violence, strengthen population development policy, and prepare Thailand for becoming an aged society in 2023. Additionally, Thailand will be hosting the International Conference on Family Planning 2022 in Pattaya in November 2022.
