On 4 December 2025, the Royal Thai Embassy organised a reception on the occasion of the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, the National Day of the Kingdom of Thailand, and Thailand’s Father’s Day at the Okura Tokyo’s Heian Room. On this occasion, H.E. Mr. Witchu Vejjajiva, Ambassador of Thailand to Japan, delivered his welcoming remarks underscoring the significance of the 5th of December for the Thai people, where the National Day, the Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty the Late King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great, and Thailand’s Father’s Day. The Ambassador also highlighted the close and long-standing relations between Thailand and Japan spanning more than 138 years, founded on the close ties between the Royal Family of Thailand and the Imperial Family of Japan.  Bilateral cooperation has continued to expand in all aspects, including politics and security, economic cooperation, advanced technology, new-generation energy industries, education, science and innovation, as well as people-to-people exchanges. In addition, Thailand and Japan cooperate closely at the multilateral level, especially within the ASEAN framework and the Mekong subregion, through capacity building for sustainable socio-economic development and the promotion of peace, security, and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

Subsequently, H.E. Dr. KUNIMITSU Ayano, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, as Guest of Honour, expressed her condolences on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit the Queen Mother and on the flooding in southern Thailand, as well as Japan’s assistance in disaster relief through the Japan International Cooperation Agency, reaffirming Japan’s role as a true friend standing by Thailand in times of difficulty. She also referred to Thailand as a key partner of Japan in advancing the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific Vision” and in the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” between the two countries.

                      Thereafter, H.E. Mr. KIUCHI Minoru, Minister in charge of Economic Security and Special Affairs, the second Guest of Honour, paid tribute to the graciousness of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej the Great and invited the guests to toast in honour of His Majesty the King, while celebrating the friendship between Thailand and Japan.

Prior to the official proceedings, guests stood in solemn tribute to Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother and viewed a short documentary video in honour of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit The Queen Mother. The reception was attended by more than 800 people, including members of the diplomatic corps, representatives from Japanese public and private sectors, and members of the Thai community in Japan who play an important role in supporting the cordial relations between Thailand and Japan.
