On 17 June 2021, the Royal Thai Embassy organized “the Thai Food Made Easy Cooking Class” at the Center for Informatics and Applied Management (CIGA) in Malika, Dakar, Senegal. The class was conducted by the chef of the Thai Ambassador residence and staff of the Royal Thai Embassy. The menu included Chicken Green Curry, Papaya Salad, Spicy Minced Chicken Salad (Lab Gai), Spring Rolls, Spicy Mango Salad with Fried Fish, Jaew dipping sauce and Seafood dipping sauce. All the ingredients and seasoning products such as fish sauce, coconut milk, and chicken sauce used for the cooking can be found locally in Senegal.
Around 50 students and teachers participating in the cooking class received certificates at the end of the session from H.E. Nipon Petchpornprapas, Ambassador of Thailand, and Mr. Mamadou Bbaye, Director-General of CIGA. Also attending the event were representative from the Ministry of Employment, and representative of the Mayor of Malika, as well as the media from Dakaractu (online press), Walf TV, APS (Senegalese Press Agency). The Royal Embassy also took this opportunity to discuss with CIGA the possibility of incorporating Thai cuisine in the curriculum of the school, so that Thai food can continue to be promoted in Senegal in a sustainable manner.
