On 28 November 2021, Mr. Wongsakorn Chaichana, First Secretary of the Royal Thai Embassy in Nur-Sultan, joined a group of international observers at the election to the “Jogorku Kenesh” (unicameral Parliament of the Kyrgyz Republic). The election was the first one to be organized after the adoption of the new country’s constitution in April 2021, which reduces the seats of representatives in the Jogorku Kenesh from 120 to 90. 36 candidates are elected according to the majoritarian system in single-mandate constituencies while 54 deputies are elected according to a proportional system in a single electoral districts (from open lists of candidates of political parties). The country also deploys electronic scanners to count the ballots in order to cross-check the result counted by electoral staffs.

During this visit, Mr. Wongsakorn also met with Thai citizens in the Kyrgyz Republic and provided medical masks, alcohol gels and Thai food products in order to help uplift their spirits from the impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

Moreover, Mr. Wongsakorn hold meetings with representatives of international cooperation agencies such as German Corporation for International Cooperation (GIZ), Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in order to learn about the work priorities of these development agencies in the Kyrgyz Republic and to seek ways to strengthen development cooperation between Thailand and the Kyrgyz Republic in the future, most notably in the celebration of the 30^th Anniversary celebration of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries in 2022.
