On 28 Jan 2024, H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand, met with H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, who is paying an official visit to Thailand during 26-29 January 2024 as guest of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Both sides co-chaired the 1st Meeting of the Consultation Mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and China, held in accordance with the MoU on Deepening Cooperation between the two Foreign Ministries signed on 19 October 2023 during H.E. Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin’s official visit to China. At the Meeting, the two sides emphasized the importance of Thailand-China friendship and reaffirmed mutual support in all areas of cooperation particularly towards building the Thailand-China Community with a Shared Future for Enhanced Stability, Prosperity and Sustainability. The Meeting also discussed ways to further promote cooperation on various fields, including trade - particulary agricultural products, investment, culture, tourism, people-to-people contact, connectivity facilitations -especially the Thailand - China highspeed railway project, as well as security issues. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international cooperation, such as under Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC), ASEAN and United Nations frameworks, as well as on regional and international issues of mutual interest with geopolitical importance like situation in Myanmar. Both sides agreed that the cooperation between Thailand and China is crucial for this region’s stability and prosperity.

As 2025 will mark the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and China, the two sides took this opportunity to discuss plans to jointly celebrate this auspicious occasion. It was agreed that activities should be held in both Thailand and China, with active participation from all sectors, including the general public of both countries.

After the Meeting, both Foreign Ministers co-signed the Agreement on Mutual Visa Exemption for Holders of Ordinary Passports and Passports for Public Affairs between Thailand and China, which will enter into force on 1 March 2024. They also witnessed the signing of land rent contracts for Chinese Consulate-Generals in Chiangmai and Khon Kaen provinces of Thailand.

Before heading back to China on 29 January 2024, H.E. Mr. Wang Yi will pay a courtesy call on H.E. the Prime Minister of Thailand at the Government House, where two documents on the export of Thai agricultural products to China will be signed.
