On 3 March 2021, H.E. Ms. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Thailand to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, deposited Thailand’s Instrument of Acceptance to the Government of the Netherlands, the depositary of the Statute, making Thailand the 88th member of the Hague Conference on Private International Law. As a HCCH member, Thailand will be able to participate in the development of rules of private international law which facilitate and govern cross-border activities in the areas which correspond well with Thailand's interests.

The Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH) is an intergovernmental organisation, established in 1893, with the purpose to develop the rules of private international law in order to establish the frameworks that facilitate cross-border co-operation in civil and commercial matters. The HCCH's work covers challenging cross-border issues including child adoption, child abduction, abolition of the requirement of legalisation for foreign public documents and the recognition and enforcement of foreign judgments in civil or commercial matters. Not only do they serve to guarantee individual rights’ protection and improve businesses’ competencies, but the HCCH Conventions also promote the legal system that is conducive to modern-day cross-border personal and economic activities which become more common nowadays.

There are 88 members in the HCCH representing all continents in the world, including five ASEAN Member States namely Malaysia, the Philippines, Viet Nam, Singapore, and Thailand.
