The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs enhanced Thailand- Turkey relations, focusing on trade and investment especially in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) and FTA negotiations expedition and cooperation in tourism, processed agricultural products and STI as well as the preparations for 5th Political Consultations, in a farewell call by Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Kingdom of Thailand.

On 20 April 2021, H.E. Ms. Evren Dağdelen Akgün, Ambassador of the Republic of Turkey to the Kingdom of Thailand, paid a farewell call on H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand. The Permanent Secretary thanked the Ambassador for her active role in promoting the Thai-Turkish relations during the 4-year tenure. Both sides reviewed the dynamic bilateral relations and agreed to promote further cooperation in the areas such as trade and investment, especially in the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC), Thai-Turkish FTA negotiations, tourism, processed agricultural products, science, technology and innovation. Both sides also discussed the preparations for the 5th Thai-Turkish Political Consultations, which will help advance cooperation in potential areas of mutual interest.

Moreover, both sides exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interests such as the ASEAN-Turkey cooperation after Turkey became ASEAN’s Sectoral Dialogue Partner in 2017, cooperation in Asia Cooperation Dialogue (ACD) as Turkey is the current Chair of ACD until September 2021 and cooperation under the United Nations framework.
