On 13 September 2021 Ambassador Nipon Petchpornprapas and his team made a field trip to Richard Toll to visit the hatchery facilities built with support from Thailand in 2013 and to discuss with the National Agency of Aquaculture (ANA), led by Director-General Tenning Sene, on further cooperation between the two sides. The ambassador also went to see other hatchery sites as well as a newly-built fish-food silo in Richard Toll.

The cooperation on aquacultures between Thailand and Senegal started in 2010, when Thailand sent 2,000 Nile Tilapia to Senegal. Later on, Thailand supported the construction of the laboratory hatchery in Richard Toll as well as organised a series of trainings for ANA experts in Thailand.

The Thai Ambassador’s visit is aimed at revitalising cooperation between the two countries in the field of aquaculture, a sector which plays a significant role in contributing to Senegal’s food security, employment and income generation. Aquaculture development is also part of the 'Plan Sénégal Emergent (PSE).'
