On 7 August 2023, H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, co-chaired the 7th Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) with H.E. Mr. Saurabh Kumar, Secretary (East) of the Ministry of External Affairs of India, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to discuss ways to advance relations between Thailand and India in all dimensions.
On this occasion, both sides noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations and the concrete advancement in various frameworks of cooperation and stressed the importance of maintaining regular engagements and high-level visits as a means to strengthen collaboration and to elevate the bilateral ties to a higher level in the future. Matters discussed included strengthening cooperation in the field of defense and security, increasing trade and investments, enhancing connectivity, and promoting cooperation in science, technology, as well as education.
Recognising their longstanding constructive contributions to the region, both sides also agreed to enhance collaboration under sub-regional and regional frameworks, in particular the Mekong - Ganga Cooperation (MGC) and BIMSTEC.
In addition, both sides also exchanged views on recent regional and international developments, in particular, the Indo-Pacific region and developments in Myanmar. Furthermore, both sides agreed to coordinate closely in regional and multilateral fora, with emphasis on ASEAN-India, ACD, and UN.
The Foreign Office Consultations is one of the mechanisms between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the Ministry of External Affairs of India, designed to review and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.
