On 17 September 2025, Mrs. Sirilak Niyom, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, chaired a meeting with relevant agencies and the private sector to discuss the situation arising from the temporary closure of the 2nd Thai - Myanmar Friendship Bridge (Mae Sot - Myawaddy), which has been in effect since 18 August 2025 following Myanmar’s announcement.
The meeting discussed both immediate and longer-term measures to mitigate the impact of the closure, including ways to address challenges related to Myanmar’s import regulations and the development of alternative transportation routes. The relevant Thai authorities will continue to engage with their Myanmar counterparts through established channels to help maintain the flow of cross-border trade.
