  1. Outcomes of the visit to Myanmar by the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs (21 - 22 April 2026)

  • On 21 - 22 April 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, paid a visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. During the visit, he paid courtesy calls on H.E. U Min Aung Hlaing, President of Myanmar, and H.E. U Nyo Saw, Vice President of Myanmar. He also held discussions with H.E. U Tin Maung Swe, Union Minister for Foreign Affairs of Myanmar, and H.E. U Than Swe, former Union Minister for Foreign Affairs and Member of the Union Consultative Council.

  • In these various meetings, both sides underscored the importance of the close and longstanding relations between the neighbouring countries and agreed to increase cooperation in border security, border trade, investment, energy security and development cooperation. They also agreed to step up joint efforts to address cross-border challenges such as narcotic drugs, online scams, transboundary haze and river pollution.

  • On the same occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister also led a Thai business delegation to pay a courtesy call on the Vice President of Myanmar to promote the Thailand - Myanmar economic partnership. Both sides discussed ways to reduce trade and investment barriers, enhance cooperation on energy security, as well as advance infrastructure and human resource development in Myanmar.

  • Thailand welcomes the opening of a new chapter in Thailand - Myanmar relations and reaffirmed Thailand’s efforts to build bridges to improve relations between Myanmar and ASEAN, and support sustainable peace in Myanmar.

 

  1. Outcomes of the EU - Thailand for ASEAN Regional Seminar on Online Scams Fighting: Strengthening Trust, Protecting People and Promoting Rules-Based Collaboration

  • On 21 - 22 April 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in collaboration with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society and the Delegation of the European Union to Thailand, co-hosted the “EU - Thailand for ASEAN Regional Seminar on Scam Fighting: Strengthening Trust, Protecting People and Promoting Rules-based Collaboration” under the Enhancing the EU’s Security Cooperation in and with Asia and the Indo-Pacific (ESIWA+) project. The seminar was presided over by H.E. Mr. Sarun Charoensuwan, Special Envoy of the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

  • The seminar brought together more than 150 participants, both on-site and online, including representatives from the public sector, private sector, financial institutions, telecommunication providers, digital platforms, civil society, as well as participants from ASEAN Member States, the European Union and international organisations.

  • The seminar aimed to strengthen cooperation among Thailand, ASEAN and the EU in addressing online scams, which are increasingly complex transnational crimes with serious impacts on economic, social and human security. This issue has been a key national agenda for Thailand, with the country continuing to play a leading role within ASEAN.

  • The seminar also built upon and further advanced cooperation among Thailand, ASEAN and the EU at both policy and operational levels, including the development of concrete initiatives. These include the proposed establishment of a regional coordination centre on combating online scams in Thailand to enhance systematic, effective and timely responses to such challenges.

 

  1. Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China’s visit to Thailand

  • On 24 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister, welcomed H.E. Mr. Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China, during his visit to Thailand to co-chair the Third Meeting of the Consultation Mechanism between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the People’s Republic of China, as well as to attend the Informal Thailand - China Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, taking place from 24 - 25 April 2026.

  • Both sides welcomed the momentum of Thailand - China relations while commemorating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic relations and aiming to elevate relations toward a truly comprehensive strategic partnership by expanding cooperation across all dimensions, including economic cooperation, science, technology, innovation, agriculture, energy, regional connectivity, and people-to-people interaction. They also discussed ways to address regional issues and respond to emerging challenges, including transnational crime, online scams, water resource management, and transboundary air pollution.

  • Both sides discussed regional and global developments, particularly the situation in the Middle East and responses to the current energy challenges, as well as cooperation under regional and international frameworks, including Mekong - Lancang Cooperation, ASEAN, APEC, and the United Nations.

  • The Minister of Foreign Affairs of China also paid a courtesy call on H.E. Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Prime Minister, to convey his congratulations on the Prime Minister’s assumption of office.

  • The Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of China will also travel to Krabi province to hold an informal retreat. The retreat will provide an opportunity for both sides to engage in in-depth and candid discussions on issues of mutual interest. The Deputy Prime Minister will brief the media following the meeting in Krabi province to share key outcomes of the discussions.

 

  1. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to attend the 25th ASEAN - EU Ministerial Meeting in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam

  • From 27 - 28 April 2026, the Deputy Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the 25th ASEAN - European Union Ministerial Meeting (AEMM), in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, upon the invitation of Brunei, as the current Country Coordinator for ASEAN - EU Dialogue Relations.

  • The AEMM is held every two years for Foreign Ministers from both ASEAN Member States and the EU, with the participation of the Secretary-General of ASEAN and High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice President of the European Commission (HR/VP) of the EU.

  • The upcoming meeting will discuss ways to advance ASEAN - EU Strategic Partnership across all priority areas and exchange views on key international and regional issues.

  • It will also be part of the preparation for the commemoration of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN - EU Dialogue Relations in 2027.
