On 18 November 2024, Ms. Sasirit Tangulrat, Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs, discussed with H.E. Mrs. Edirisinghe Arachchilage Sriyani Wijayanthi Edirisinghe, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, on the occasion of the Ambassador’s assumption of duty.

The Director-General congratulated the Ambassador on presenting her Letters of Credence to His Majesty the King. Both sides highlighted the long-standing relationship between Thailand and Sri Lanka, particularly in Buddhist affairs, which reflects the strong bonds between the two countries that have been nurtured over time. They also expressed readiness to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in economic cooperation, after the signing of the Thailand - Sri Lanka Free Trade Agreement during the Thai Prime Minister's Official Visit to Sri Lanka in February 2024.

In addition, they discussed possible joint activities to commemorate the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Thailand and Sri Lanka in 2025. Both sides also aimed to strengthen political relations through bilateral and multilateral platforms.
