Thailand Donates Humanitarian Assistance to Sri Lanka

On 3 August 2022, H.E. Mr. Vijavat Isarabhakdi, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, presided over the handover ceremony of donations to Sri Lanka which include medicines, medical supplies, food, and financial support. The donations were made by the Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, Government Pharmaceutical Organization, Thai Red Cross Society, Somdet Phra Nyanasamvara Somdet Phra Sangharaja Wat Bavoranives Vihara Foundation under the Royal Patronage, and Wat Phra Ram 9 Karnchanapisek, totalling over 5 million baht. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also donated 1.3 million baht worth of medical supplies. The donations were received by H.E. Ambassador C.A. Chaminda I. Colonne, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Thailand, on behalf of the Government of Sri Lanka.

In recent months, Thai governmental agencies and private sectors have continuously provided support to Sri Lanka, with the Thai Parliament donating 700,000 baht and Siam City Cement Public Company Limited also donating 4 million baht worth of medical supplies and monetary assistance. Other Thai public and private sectors are also considering providing additional assistance to Sri Lanka.

Thailand and Sri Lanka have cherished cultural ties and people-to-people connection. The donations reflect the close and cordial ties as well as the goodwill between Thai and Sri Lankan peoples. Moreover, the donation of humanitarian assistance to Sri Lanka is a reflection of Thainess as “a true friend” and “a friend in need”.
