Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain paid a farewell call on the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand

On 13 December 2021, H.E. Mr. Emilio de Miguel Calabia, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Thailand, paid a farewell call on
H.E. Mr. Thani Thongphakdi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs of Thailand, to bid farewell at the end of his tenure.

The Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs expressed his appreciation to the Ambassador of Spain for his active role in enhancing and strengthening Thai – Spanish relations in all areas of cooperation. Moreover, the Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs expressed his gratitude for Spain’s support in reselling AstraZeneca (Vaxzevria) COVID-19 vaccines to Thailand, the first EU country to resell to Thailand, which contributed to Thailand’s decision to adjust traveling measures on 1 November 2021 and open up the country for tourism.

At the same time, the Ambassador of Spain thanked the Royal Thai Government for all the cooperation and support extended to him during
his four-year tenure in Thailand. In addition, the Ambassador of Spain stressed the close bilateral relations between Thailand and Spain in particular in trade and investment, cultural and education and urged for the two countries to promote the exchange of high-level visits. The two sides also discussed the holding of the 4th Thailand-Spain Political Consultations and the 1st Thailand-Spain Forum in Madrid next year.

Both sides also exchanged views on the EU Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific. On the multilateral front, both sides discussed ways to enhance cooperation within the frameworks of the ASEAN-EU and Thai-EU cooperation, in particular the resumption of the Thai-EU FTA negotiations at the earliest.
