On 23 October 2023 H.E. Mr. Parnpree Bahiddha-Nukara, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Thailand attended the religious ceremony in honour of the late H.E. Mr. Aziz Phitakkumpon, the 18th Sheikhul Islam of Thailand at the Islamic Centre of Thailand, alongside the Thai Muslim Community in remembrance and commemoration of the late Sheikhul Islam’s role and achievements.

On this occasion, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs eulogised that, in addition from being the leader and spiritual guide for the Muslim community in Thailand, the late Sheikhul Islam also played an important role in the promotion and upkeep of Islam as well as ensuring the well-being of the Muslim brothers and sisters with utmost dedication, even prior to his appointment to the position.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs added that the Sheikhul Islam was essential in building awareness and fostering understanding of Islam among people of other faiths, which contributed in shaping Thailand as a truly harmonious multicultural society. Furthermore, the Sheikh Al-Islam was also a diplomat in his own right, as he visited various countries, especially those in the Muslim world, in order to nurture understanding about Islam’s role in the country, leading to Thailand being recognised internationally as a tolerant country.

Upon the return of the Sheikhul Islam to the mercy of Allah, may He grant his soul to dwell in everlasting paradise.

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return
