On 14 January 2025, H.E. Mr. Russ Jalichandra, Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, attended the opening session of SAMVAD IV under the theme “The Asian Century of Dharma-Dhamma” at the United Nations Conference Center in Bangkok.

The Vice Minister highlighted Thailand’s strengths in respecting diversity and peaceful coexistence, while maintaining a balance between material development and spiritual progress. He expressed that the Buddhist principles and teachings of metta-karuna (kindness and compassion), along with the Hindu principle of ahimsa (non-violence), can be applied as guidelines to address the complex problems in today’s world. This is especially relevant in the 21st century, which is regarded as the Century of Asia due to the region’s remarkable economic progress. He emphasized that such development should not be measured solely by economic indicators, but requires a holistic approach that integrates economic growth with spiritual wisdom, ethical consideration and sustainable practices. He urged all sectors to join hands in transforming the Century of Asia into a century of wisdom, collective responsibility, and sustainable progress for humanity.
