On 5 July 2024, Mrs. Eksiri Pintaruchi, Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs, received a courtesy call by H.E. Mr. Otaka Masato, Ambassador of Japan to Thailand, on his assumption of duty in Bangkok.

Both sides discussed ways to advance bilateral cooperation, especially in areas of economy and investment, which laid the foundation of the bilateral relations between both countries. Japan will host the 6th Thailand-Japan High Level Joint Commission (HLJC) meeting this year to discuss comprehensive strategies for enhancing economic cooperation at the policy level. Additionally, they explored ways to enhance vocational education cooperation to better meet the needs of the industrial sector, as highlighted by the KOSEN program. Emphasis was also placed on advancing cooperation in reducing carbon emissions in the industrial and energy sectors, notably through the Energy and Industry Dialogue (EID) initiative.

H.E. Mr. Otaka reaffirmed Japan’s support for Thailand's application to join the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and pledged Japan’s continued assistance to Thailand throughout the entire process. The two sides also exchanged views on international and geopolitical issues, including the situation in Myanmar and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. In particular, the Japanese Ambassador expressed appreciation for Thailand's role in providing humanitarian assistance to Myanmar and Japan's support for Thailand and ASEAN's continued efforts in addressing the situation in Myanmar.
