On 23-24 September 2024, Mr. Chakkrid Krachaiwong, Director-General of the Protocol Department, led a delegation from the Protocol Department to visit Chiang Mai Province as part of the Annual Visit of Protocol Department Programme. The main objective of the program is to discuss and exchange views on practices for facilitating diplomatic and consular privileges and immunities. Additionally, the visit aims to strengthen the collaboration between the Protocol Department and Thai provincial government agencies, Consuls and Honorary Consuls based in Chiang Mai. The Director-General paid a courtesy call on the Governor of Chiang Mai to exchange views on collaboration between the province and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Topics discussed included organizing a trip for the diplomatic corps to visit Chiang Mai to explore opportunities for future cooperation, as well as the potential for hosting international meetings in the province.

On this occasion, the Protocol Department held a meeting with representatives from relevant government agencies in Chiang Mai. The discussion focused on enhancing the understanding of roles and responsibilities in facilitating diplomatic and consular privileges and immunities for foreign diplomatic and consular personnel. In addition, during the reception, the Protocol Department exchanged views on facilitating consular privileges and immunities and promoted the "e-Privilege" system, developed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The system aims to streamline the provision of diplomatic and consular privileges for consuls and honorary consuls based in Chiang Mai.
