Thailand and the Republic of Korea held the 2nd Cybersecurity Dialogue in Seoul

On 16 May 2024, Mr. Sorut Sukthaworn, Ambassador Attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand co-chaired the 2nd Thailand-Republic of Korea Cybersecurity Dialogue with Mr. Rhee Dong-yeol, Ambassador for International Security Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea in Seoul.

The high-level representation by Mr. Ruchakorn Napapornpipat, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC), and Major General Teerawut Wittayakorn, Deputy Secretary General of National Cyber Security Agency (NCSA), reflected the importance Thailand placed on the Dialogue. During the meeting, both sides updated their respective cybersecurity policies and strategies, exchanged views on recent developments in the cyber threat landscape, and discussed further cooperation at bilateral and multilateral levels, including under the ASEAN-Republic of Korea framework and UN mechanisms. Both sides agreed to fortify their cooperation with an intersessional review mechanism.

On 17 May 2024, the Thai delegation also visited the Republic of Korea’s leading cybersecurity company, AhnLab, and Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA) at KISA Seoul Office. The delegation exchanged with executives of both organisations on cyber-related issues, including best practices of cyber incident responses as well as public-private partnerships that help secure national cyber domain.

The Thailand-Republic of Korea Cybersecurity Dialogue is the first bilateral framework dedicated to cybersecurity issues between Thailand and other foreign countries. It is also the first bilateral cybersecurity framework that the Republic of Korea established with a Southeast Asian country.
